Sarina Mizutani

Violin

Sarina holds a Bachelor of Music in Orchestral Performance and a post-graduate diploma in chamber music from Wilfrid Laurier University where she studied with Jerzy Kaplanek of the Penderecki String Quartet. During her time at Laurier, she performed with numerous string quartets; the Wilfrid Laurier Symphony Orchestra; and sat as concertmaster for the Opera Laurier orchestra in 2019. As a performer, she has participated in numerous music festivals such as Orford Musique in Quebec and Laurier’s Quartetfest. In recent years, she has been involved with community music ensembles in the area including Vera Causa Opera, the Kitchener Waterloo Chamber Orchestra, and the Stratford Symphony Orchestra.

Sarina is also an SAA approved Suzuki violin teacher. She has worked at various music schools including the Suzuki String School of Guelph, Rockwood Music Academy, and Long & McQuade in Guelph & Waterloo. She also helped launch a project in partnership with the Suzuki String School of Guelph that focused on bringing music lessons to a local low-income elementary school, where this type of education is not always accessible. She is currently furthering her mission to make music more accessible by working in an ongoing capacity with the Suzuki music program in Barbados to help develop and elevate their music education system and make classical music more prominent in their community.

Since the onset of COVID-19, Sarina has shifted her focus to promoting health and wellness and currently works in yoga studio management & promotion at a local yoga studio and works full time as a hot yoga teacher. She also continues to teach violin lessons to a handful of private students in the evenings.
