Barb has been playing double bass since the age of 10, beginning in a school programme in Etobicoke. At that time, she decided to be an elementary strings teacher. To reach that goal, she studied music education at Western University and double bass with Jeff Stokes. During her teaching and performing career, she has worked with children of all ages through school strings and vocal music ensembles and classes, providing workshops on teaching music literacy in a classroom setting. She was the principal bass in The Woodstock Strings and is a founding member of the Stratford Symphony Orchestra. Currently, she holds the position of principal bass in the KW Chamber Orchestra. Barb retired from teaching elementary strings in 2012, spending more time designing and hooking rugs, working on a cottage project and travelling with her musician husband Kirby. They are part of the music team at Calvary United Church.
