Born in Winnipeg, graduated from McGill University, Margaret Metcalfe played violin in several professional orchestras including the Quebec Symphony, North Carolina Symphony, Edmonton Symphony, and KW Symphony, before switching to the viola. She retired from the KW Symphony in 2015, after 35 years in the viola section. She has served as principal violist in the Woodstock Strings from 1987-2003, the Stratford Symphony from 2009- present, and the KW Community Orchestra since 2015. From 1994-2007, she directed Viola Camp, a “lively party for enthusiastic players”. In 2010, she received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Canadian Viola Society.
