Dylan Murphy began studying the cello at age 16. He has completed an Honours Bachelor of Music degree majoring in Orchestral Performance from Wilfrid Laurier University, where he studied with Katie Schlaikjer and Paul Pulford. For the 2018/19 season Dylan was principal cellist of the Laurier Symphony Orchestra. In 2019, Dylan was a recipient of the Penderecki String Quartet Prize alongside his string quartet, The Meraki Quartet. In 2019, Dylan pursued intensive chamber music studies at Quartet Fest at Laurier University. Dylan is a member of the Kitchener-Waterloo Chamber Orchestra for their 2018/19 and 2019/20 seasons. Dylan has played in masterclasses for cellists Yegor Dyachkov, Paul Marleyn, Leanne Zacharias, Colin Carr, Rachel Mercer, and Pamela Highbaugh-Aloni. Dylan has worked with teachers Vernon Regehr, Leo Erice, Angela Park, Yehonatan Berick, and the Lafayette String Quartet. Dylan has studied at Le Domaine Forget Academy, and Orford Music Academy in Quebec. Other interests include drama, film, singing, sailing, canoeing, and travelling.
